Latitude 28 is set to open its first art exhibition of 2025 with Ulatbansi, a solo show by Baroda-based artist Yogesh Ramkrishna, from January 31 to March 15. The exhibition, curated by Satyajit Dave, offers a provocative exploration of societal paradoxes and modern realities through a mix of satire, drama, and dark humour.

The preview of the art exhibition will be held on January 31 from 6 to 9 PM at Latitude 28, Lado Sarai. A special event, India Art Fair Lado Sarai Art Nite, is scheduled for February 5 from 4 to 7 PM.

The exhibition’s title, Ulatbansi, is derived from the works of Bhakti poet Kabir, known for his use of paradoxes and inversions to challenge established norms. Yogesh Ramkrishna employs this spirit to critique systemic failures, cultural propaganda, and the tensions between tradition and modernity in a post-truth world.

Ramkrishna’s works reflect on the hyperreal era, where simulated realities—like curated social media personas and media constructs—often overshadow lived experiences. Through gouache paintings, sculptural props, and interactive objects, the artist merges mythology, history, and contemporary themes to create a metaphorical theatre that questions collective and individual identities.

Curator Satyajit Dave brings depth to the exhibition with his scenography and catalogue essay, enhancing the show’s focus on the ways evolving socio-political structures, aggressive religious insecurities, and media-driven manipulations impact society.

Speaking about the exhibition, Bhavna Kakar, Founder-Director of Latitude 28, said, “We have mentored Yogesh Ramkrishna for the past seven years, and it’s wonderful to see his body of work come together for this solo presentation. Ulatbansi is not merely an exhibition; it is an invitation for viewers to reflect on their place in an ever-changing world. The show challenges us to think about the stories we’ve been told, question our beliefs, and reimagine the truths we hold dear in a world increasingly shaped by virtual realities and systemic failures.”

When: January 31 to March 15; 11 AM – 7 PM
