Amazing Asian fusion

Japanese and Chinese food with a dash of American and Indian adaptations proves to be quite enjoyable, though purists might not be amused

Kylin is a unicorn of Chinese myth depicted with the tail of an ox and the legs and body of a deer. It is also an Asian chain with 14 restaurants in Delhi NCR and two more elsewhere in the North. The newest of the family is Kylin Experience, which differentiates itself from others by being larger, with a more extensive and interactive menu.

I am here to taste the offerings at Kylin Experience outlet in Greater Kailash-I, and the starting point is the land of the rising sun. Dragon Roll (Rs 795) is American sushi on steroids with crab stick, salmon, tuna, avocado, and cucumber with piped mayonnaise all rolled into one. While sushi classicists may be disturbed by this sushi, it is nevertheless quite enjoyable. So is the case with Crunchy Yasai (Rs 595) with its pickled radish, green apple, cucumber, chilly mayo with tempura flakes topping.

A tastefully presented platter

Chicken Curry Dimsum (Rs 375) is a Hindi-Chini bhai bhai rendition with a chicken dumpling sitting on a piquant red desi curry. The two salads, Som tom (Rs 245) with raw papaya, peanuts, chilly and vinegar and Larb Gai (Rs.395) with warm minced chicken and cucumber in a sweet spicy dressing are competent. Kylin Veg Lettuce Wrap (Rs 345) is deliciously light with lots of veggies and no carbs.

Night vibes at the restaurant

In the mains, I start by trying their interactive teppanyaki bar. Teppanyaki chicken with water chestnut and chili garlic served with Hakka noodles – Japanese style of cooking on hot iron plate (Rs 595) and Thai Herb Fish Teppanyaki sole fish in Thai herb (Rs 645) are both quite enjoyable. Among bowl meals, pan-fried noodles in black bean sauce with vegetables (Rs 395) has the perfect char and crispness of the vegetables. But it is Nasi Goreng (Rs 595), the Indonesian style fried rice with prawns topped with fried egg and chicken satay that steals my heart. It is quite easily the dish of the day for me.

Kylin Experience takes your taste buds on an adventure across Asia without leaving NCR. The experience here is truly an enjoyable one.
