WhatsApp rolls out chat theme feature: Here’s what’s new

Meta is introducing new customisation options for WhatsApp, allowing users to personalise their chats with different themes and background styles. The new feature, called Chat Themes, is now being rolled out for both Android and iOS users. While it is gradually becoming available, it will be accessible to users worldwide in the coming weeks.

With this update, WhatsApp users can now customise more than just their chat backgrounds. They can also change the colour of chat bubbles to match their preferences. WhatsApp offers multiple pre-set themes that automatically adjust both the background and chat bubbles. Additionally, users have the flexibility to mix and match elements from different themes to create a unique appearance.

The new chat themes can also be applied to WhatsApp Channels, giving users more control over their app’s appearance. They can choose to apply a single theme across all their chats or set individual themes for different conversations.

As part of this update, WhatsApp has introduced 30 new wallpaper options. However, users still have the option to upload their own images from their gallery. It is important to note that these customisations are visible only to the user who applies them and do not affect the appearance of the chat for the other person in the conversation.

How to change WhatsApp chat theme?

  1. To find the new Chat theme option, simply open WhatsApp on your device and click on the three-dot menu that appears on the top right of the app.
  2. From the drop down menu, tap on Settings, and on the page that appears, find and click on “Chats”.
  3. Now, click on “Default chat theme” and you will get the option to select from a pre-set theme and change the chat colour and wallpaper.

Since the feature is being rolled out gradually, it may not be available to all users immediately. However, it is expected to be widely accessible in the coming weeks.
