Any future terror act will be considered ‘act of war’ against India: Govt sources

Any future act of terrorism in India will be treated as an “act of war” against the nation and will be met with an appropriate response, top government sources said on Saturday.

With this stance, the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to set clear boundaries against terror activities and signal its determination to respond resolutely to both perpetrators and their conspirators. This declaration is widely seen as a direct message to Pakistan, which has been linked to numerous terrorist groups that have targeted Indian civilians and security personnel.

The announcement comes in the wake of escalating tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of whom were tourists.

Amid the rising hostilities, Prime Minister Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday with senior members of the defence establishment to assess the evolving security landscape and formulate strategies for the road ahead.

Those present at the meeting included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the three service chiefs, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, officials said.

The conflict with Pakistan has intensified, with the Indian armed forces mounting proportionate and effective responses to Pakistan’s continued attempts to target Indian installations.

India also reported on Saturday that Pakistan’s military is mobilising troops towards forward areas as both sides persist in striking each other’s military facilities.

“The Pakistan military is observed to be moving their troops to the border areas,” said Colonel Sofiya Qureshi at a press briefing, held alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
