As per the sources, at least three flights were diverted and 40 flights were delayed at Delhi airport because of the dense rain in the national capital on Wednesday.
The sources stated that 25 flight departures and 15 flights were delayed due to the weather conditions.
According to the official Twitter account of airline Vistara, the two Mumbai to Delhi flights were diverted to other cities – flight UK952 to Jaipur and flight UK960 to Indore – due to the rain.
Predicting the situation, Vistara tweeted their contacts for any help: “Due to bad weather (Heavy Rainfall) expected in Delhi, Arrivals/Departures are likely to get impacted. Please visit http://airvistara.com or SMS UK<Flight no.> to 9289228888 to check the updated flight status. Thank You.”
Sources also added that apart from two of Vistara flights, one more flight was diverted to another city from the airport.
When the news agency PTI contacted Delhi airport on the matter, there was no reply.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the morning had predicted “enhanced rainfall activity” over northwest India for two-three days.
The weather department had also issued a yellow alert, which meant moderate to heavy rain in the national capital on Wednesday.
On similar lines, other weather stations have also recorded light to moderate rainfall on several occasions in the capital in the month of July.
The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 33 degrees Celsius, it was predicted.
