Police have arrested a 54-year-old peon named Ajay, who worked at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run school, for allegedly raping a fifth-grade student with the help of his associates after sedating her.
The incident occurred on March 14, and the victim stopped attending school and missed her final exams after the incident.
According to a police official, “As per the complaint, the accused took her to an unknown place from the school, sedated her with some unknown substance and committed gangrape with his associates.”
The teacher contacted her brother to inquire about her absence and was informed of the incident. “The victim’s teacher contacted her brother and enquired about her absence from the final exams. Her brother informed the teacher about the incident,” she said.
The police are currently attempting to locate Ajay’s accomplices. Ajay, who hails from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh and lives in Ghaziabad, had been employed at the school for ten years. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has yet to comment on the case.
The victim was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital for a medical examination and counseling. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Amrutha Guguloth said, “The principal of the Ghazipur school along with her fellow teachers reported the incident on Wednesday.”
A case has been filed against Ajay under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Gazipur police station.
This heinous crime has sparked outrage in the community, with many expressing their disgust and calling for justice for the victim. (With inputs from PTI)
