Ushaarth Art Foundation and the India International Centre will hold an exhibition, ‘Celebrating Ambadas’ at The Art Gallery, Kamaladevi Complex in Delhi. This exhibition will pay tribute to Ambadas Khobragade, who is considered one of the great masters of Indian modern art.
The exhibition, curated by Shruti Lakhanpal Tandon in collaboration with Dhoomimal Gallery and Prayag Shukla, will showcase a diverse collection of paintings, drawings, personal letters, photographs, old catalogues, and writings spanning seven decades of the artist’s illustrious career.
The inauguration of this event will be graced by the presence Hans Jacob Frydenlund, Ambassador of Norway. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 06:00 Pm.
Art connoisseurs and the general public will have the opportunity to witness exhibition from June 17 to 27 June 2023, between 11:00 and 19:00 each day. The collection features artwork from Dhoomimal Gallery as well as various private collections, offering a comprehensive overview of Ambadas Khobragade’s creative journey.
To complement the exhibition, a series of engaging programs will take place at the Art Gallery, adding further depth to the celebration of Ambadas Khobragade’s legacy.
On Saturday, June 17, visitors can partake in “A Day with Prayag Shukla,” where art critic, poet, writer, and close friend of Ambadas Khobragade, Prayag Shukla, will interact with guests, sharing personal memories and insights into the artist and his oeuvre.
On Sunday, June 18, at 17:00, there will be a captivating poetry reading by Gagan Gill, followed by talks by Ashok Vajpeyi and Shridhar Iyer on “Ambadas and his Relationship with J. Swaminathan.” These presentations will shed light on the profound connection between Ambadas Khobragade and J. Swaminathan, an influential artist and art critic.
The “Special Curatorial Walk for the Hearing Impaired,” curated in collaboration with the Noida Deaf Society, will take place on Wednesday, June 21, from 11:00 to 13:00. This unique experience will include a curated walk and drawing session accompanied by sign language interpreters, allowing the hearing-impaired community to engage with Ambadas Khobragade’s art on a profound level.
As part of the exhibition’s diverse program, a film titled “The Way I See – Celebrating Ambadas (India)” will be screened on Thursday, June 22, at the C.D. Deshmukh Auditorium, starting at 18:30. Produced by Shruti Lakhanpal Tandon, Founder of the Ushaarth Art Foundation, the 60-minute film delves into Ambadas Khobragade’s life and artistic journey through interviews with artists, poets, and writers.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Prayag Shukla, a notable poet, writer, and close friend of Ambadas Khobragade, and Dr. Shruti Lakhanpal Tandon herself.
