Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi has made a commitment to clean up Delhi within two months, announcing the implementation of special cleanliness campaigns in each zone to thoroughly clean every ward.
During a review meeting with the zonal DCs of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Mayor Oberoi discussed various local issues, including the cleanliness of the city, desilting of drains, road repairs, and park maintenance.
To enhance public services, the mayor instructed officials to collaborate with councillors and emphasized the importance of regular inspections and prompt issue resolution. It was reported during the meeting that the cleaning of drains in MCD areas is nearly complete, while some drains in other departments still require attention.
To address this issue, Mayor Oberoi requested a list of relevant drains to coordinate with other departments for their cleaning, aiming to prevent waterlogging in Delhi during the monsoon season. The mayor reaffirmed the commitment to completely clean Delhi within two months, announcing that special campaigns would be conducted in each zone, involving the participation of all campaign employees. Additionally, campaigns to remove construction and demolition waste would be launched in each zone.
Leader of the House Mukesh Goyal emphasised the importance of officials in all 12 zones working together to address public-related issues based on merit. Adequate funds will be allocated to support the civic body’s work.
In preparation for the festival of Eid-ul-Adha, all regional DCs were instructed to repair street lights and ensure cleanliness around mosques.
Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal highlighted the significance of maintaining cleanliness in Old Delhi and other areas. The municipal corporation plans to conduct cleaning operations three times during the festival to ensure a hassle-free experience for the public. ( With inputs from PTI)
