The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) affixed new plaques and signage on Thursday as the name of Aurangzeb Lane was changed to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Lane. The decision was taken last week in a Council meeting.
The renaming ceremony took place on Thursday, with workers from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) unveiling a signboard displaying the new name. The decision to rename the lane was made during a meeting of the NDMC members on June 28, following their approval.
This change is not the first of its kind in the area. Back in August 2015, the NDMC had renamed the previously named Aurangzeb Road, named after the 17th-century Mughal ruler, to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
According to an official, the NDMC approved the renaming of the lane in a meeting of its members on June 28.
NDMC vice chairman Satish Upadhyay last week announced that the council approved the renaming of ‘Aurangzeb Lane’ under the NDMC area as ‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Lane’.
“To respect the sentiments of people, the need to recognise and honour great men and women of our times, roads/ streets/ institutions have been re-named in the past,” NDMC Vice Chairman, Satish Upadhyay said. (With inputs from PTI)
