The police on Sunday arrested three individuals, including a 29-year-old man named Waseem, his 32-year-old brother Fahim, and their 23-year-old associate Sahil, on charges of orchestrating a plot to frame their rival by staging a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to law enforcement, the accused were found in possession of a locally-made pistol. The incident in question took place in the Kardampuri area and was initially reported at the Jyoti Nagar police station in northeast Delhi on a Thursday. The victim, suffering from a gunshot wound, was taken to GTB Hospital by his brother.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey explained, “A police team promptly arrived at the hospital and initiated an inquiry into the matter. However, the victim did not provide a statement. Consequently, a case was registered under sections 307/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant provisions of the Arms Act.”
During the course of the investigation, the authorities apprehended an individual named Bhura, who, during questioning, revealed that he had recently been released from jail. Subsequently, Fahim, the victim’s brother, was questioned, leading to the revelation that they had devised a plan to incriminate Bhura in a false case. They conspired with their friend Sahil and sought out a location that was not covered by CCTV cameras.
On Thursday around 9 pm, the trio allegedly intercepted Bhura. Sahil managed to restrain Bhura from behind while Fahim handed a locally-made pistol to his brother Waseem. Waseem then allegedly shot himself in the left leg and returned the weapon to Fahim. However, during the altercation, Bhura managed to break free from Sahil’s grasp and fled the scene.
The injured Waseem was subsequently transported to GTB Hospital, and the trio made a PCR call on their way there, according to the police.
DCP Tirkey added, “The locally-made pistol, loaded with a single empty cartridge, was recovered from the possession of accused Fahim.”
