In east Delhi’s Shakarpur area, two Bangladeshi nationals, one of them a Delhi University student, were reportedly assaulted and subjected to forced sodomy by five men, police said.
According to police, the victims, who identify as part of the LGBTIQA+ community, had gone to watch a Ramlila performance in Shakarpur on the night of October 17.
During their return, the DU student encountered Abhishek, whom he had befriended through a gay dating app a few days prior, they said.
Accompanied by two friends, Abhishek proposed a physical relationship, which the student declined. However, his friend agreed, they added.
Subsequently, all five individuals, including two more friends of Abhishek, insisted on engaging in physical activities with the Bangladeshi nationals. When the victims refused, Abhishek and his companions physically assaulted and sodomised them in a park,” a police officer said.
“The victims reported the incident to their friend, leading to a police complaint filed under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 377 (unnatural offences),” the officers said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Achin Garg said, law enforcement swiftly responded, forming a team of 20 officers, scanning 50 nearby CCTV cameras, and gathering intelligence within 12 hours.
Three of the accused, Devashish Verma (20), Surjeet (21), and Aryan alias Golu (20), were apprehended, along with a juvenile. Efforts were underway to arrest Abhishek, DCP said. (With inputs from PTI)
