A 22-year-old man from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was arrested in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, for allegedly murdering his employer, 32-year-old Anuj Singh, and hia eight-year-old son, Raunak, in their home above a restaurant in Nabi Karim, central Delhi, police said.
Police said Kumar, who worked at Singh’s restaurant in Nabi Karim, had an altercation with Singh on October 17 when Singh accused him of stealing cash from his wallet. Enraged, Kumar sought revenge.
On Friday night, while Singh and his son were sleeping, Kumar entered their room. He attacked Singh with a stick and then slit his throat with a knife, they said.
Hearing the commotion, Raunak woke up and started screaming. Kumar also attacked the child, slitting his throat before fleeing the scene. Before escaping, Kumar damaged the CCTV camera installed on the premises, they added.
Singh’s mother, wife, and daughter were not at home that night and discovered the horrifying scene upon their return on Saturday, said the police.
The police investigation led to Kumar’s arrest in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib, where he had fled after the crime. The police recovered the murder weapon, a kitchen knife, and a wooden stick, along with Singh’s mobile phone, from Kumar’s possession.
Kumar, who had recently shifted to Delhi from Punjab, had been working at a tea stall at Tiz Hazari Court Complex before getting employed at Singh’s eatery, said the police. (With inputs from PTI)
