Women’s cricket leagues of 20 overs and 50 overs as well as automation of data of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) cricket are some of the measures that will be undertaken over the next few months, said Rohan Jaitley, the president of the association, on Wednesday night.
Jaitley also announced that DDCA has managed to get two grounds from Delhi government’s Department of Education – in Bharat Nagar and Vikaspuri.
“We have been handed over two grounds – in Bharat Nagar and Vikaspuri. It is only for a period of two years to begin with but we are setting up high performance groups there. Players who are consistently performing, doing well, will now be trained round the year – boys, girls, seniors, juniors of every age group — by a dedicated team of coaches, support staff, physiotherapists and trainers at the two centres,” said Jaitley during the DDCA Annual Awards Function at the Arun Jaitley Stadium to felicitate the performing teams and players in the 2022-23 DDCA League.
“I am hoping that the [Bharat Nagar and Vikaspuri] grounds will be up and functional [with DDCA activities] by January 1 or latest by 15th.”
Jaitley also told Patriot on the sidelines of the function that the association is looking to involve technology and “put up real-time data as has been done by Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI)”.
“We are exploring it and by January we will be able to get the true picture on the subject of integrating Delhi cricket with technology,” said Jaitley.
The victorious under-15 team that reached the final of the BCCI under-15 women’s tournament was also handed out a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh. The money will be distributed among the support staff and players. Normally, DDCA doubles the prize money announced by BCCI but since the Indian board hasn’t announced anything, the association decided to announce Rs 20 lakh on its own.
“The women’s under-15 team have done a tremendous job, and the other good news is that the under-23 women’s team have also qualified for the knockouts.”
The women’s under-23 won all six of their league games to qualify for the quarter-finals of the BCCI under-23 tournament.
“Since the women’s team have been doing well over the past few seasons, there is a proposal to start a women’s league which would comprise 20-over and 50-over games. It is a league which will be completed within a period of 90 to 100 days. The modalities are being worked out but we are hoping to conclude it before the 31st March next year.”
Jaitley pointed out that the leagues will be held ahead of the selections and will be a criterion for selections.
“It is going precursor for selections. The maximum number of people participating in it will get the maximum exposure for playing at the state level.”
Jaitley also emphasised on introducing multi-day format in Delhi. He had touched upon it at last year’s function also but there was no headway.
Addressing the DDCA officials, he said, “We should also introduce multi-day games. This year, you introduced T20 format expand it to multi-day format.”
