An exhibition titled “Chitpur Chronicles: A Journey Through Sacred Imagery” will be held from September 6 to 30 at Naivedyam basement, Hauz Khas Village.
Organised by the Management of Art Treasures of India (MATI), the exhibition features some of the oldest and rarest Chitpur lithographs, providing a glimpse into India’s visual history where traditional religious art intersects with modern print technology.
The Chitpur lithographs, which date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily depict Hindu deities and mythological narratives from the Chitpur area of Kolkata. According to Siddhartha Tagore, Founder of MATI, these prints reflect a significant moment in India’s artistic evolution.
“These lithographs are more than just prints; they represent a cultural and artistic heritage that connects us to a pivotal chapter in our history,” Tagore said.

The exhibition includes works from Chore Bagan Art Studio and Kansaripara Art Studio. “The depictions of figures like Abhimanyu, Beenapani, and Kalighater Sri Sri Kali Mata not only showcase the skill of the artists but also illustrate a time when art, religion, and technology came together in a unique way,” Tagore added.
