Vadehra Art Gallery is currently presenting a solo exhibition by British-Pakistani artist Faiza Butt, titled You Miss More Than You See, which opened on October 15 and will run until November 12, 2024. The art exhibition explores the intersection of culture, history, and personal identity, blending traditional iconography with contemporary themes.
Faiza Butt’s work often addresses the tension between historical legacies and modern life, with a focus on how images and ideas transcend time and cultures. “Her pieces reflect her own journey as a woman, parent, and immigrant while critiquing the broader effects of globalisation on identity,” a gallery spokesperson said.
A key focus of the exhibition is Butt’s exploration of technology’s impact on human connection. By portraying figures in classical poses, inspired by the French school of painting, Butt critiques the detachment and isolation caused by our increasing dependence on screens. “Through these works, Butt highlights the way technology reshapes our sense of presence and engagement,” the gallery noted.

Set against cultural backdrops like Chinese room dividers and Eastern tapestries, Butt’s paintings evoke a sense of dislocation between the past and future, emphasising the cyclical nature of art history and the immigrant experience.
Faiza Butt, who was born in Lahore and later trained at the Slade School of Art in London, has exhibited internationally. Her work, known for its intricate detail, has often explored themes of gender, politics, and media imagery. This latest exhibition builds on her previous shows in London, New York, Hong Kong, and her participation in the Venice Biennale.
