Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) announced on Thursday that over 50 markets across the city will offer discounts to individuals who vote on February 5 in an effort to boost voter turnout.
CTI Chairperson Brijesh Goyal stated that those who participate in the elections on February 5 will be eligible for discounts in various markets on February 6. Discounts between 20 and 25 per cent will be available at hotels and guest houses.
Goyal also highlighted that the first week of February coincides with the busy wedding season in Delhi-NCR and mentioned that more than 100 market associations were consulted to ensure that voter participation remains high.
Mahendra Agarwal, President of Nehru Place Market, announced a 10 per cent discount for voters on computers, laptops, and related items.
Similarly, Nitin Gupta, President of Kamla Nagar Market, stated that a 15 per cent discount will be available to those who visit the market after voting.
Bharat Arora, a trader leader from Khari Baoli, offered a 5 per cent discount for voters, while Tarun Gupta, President of the Dariba Jewelers Association in Chandni Chowk, declared a 1 per cent discount on gold and silver purchases.
Gopal Dawar, Chairman of the Federation of Lajpat Nagar Market Association, mentioned that discounts of 5 to 10 per cent will be available in Lajpat Nagar markets.
Pawan Mittal, General Secretary of Delhi Hotel Mahasangh, added that all hotels will provide an additional 20 per cent discount on room bookings for voters.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
