Following a record-breaking rainfall in August, Delhi is expected to start September on a similarly wet note. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a cloudy sky for the capital on Monday, with light to moderate rainfall likely in most areas.
Some parts of the city could also witness heavy downpours.
The IMD has predicted maximum and minimum temperatures around 30°C and 23°C, respectively. The first week of September is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with chances of rain continuing throughout.
On Sunday, Delhi experienced intermittent rain through the day, accompanied by patches of sunshine as clouds hovered over the city. Rain persisted late into the evening. The maximum temperature reached 32.1°C, while the minimum dropped to 24.5°C — around two degrees below the seasonal average. Humidity levels remained high, ranging between 74% and 89%. Light drizzle was also reported from areas such as Lodhi Road.

While the wet weather may have disrupted daily life, it brought a silver lining in terms of air quality. The rain helped keep pollution levels in check, and according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) stood at 79 on Sunday. This falls under the “satisfactory” category.
Officials expect the AQI to remain in the “satisfactory” to “moderate” range in the coming days, aided by the cleansing effect of continued rainfall and favorable atmospheric conditions.
As Delhi enters September with more showers on the horizon, residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy and stay updated with local weather alerts.
