MCD invites agencies to study the feasibility of using smaller mechanised sweepers to clean Delhi’s narrow streets, which are currently swept manually due to space constraints

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has invited agencies to study whether narrow city streets can be cleaned using mechanised road sweepers, a move aimed at improving sanitation in congested neighbourhoods where conventional machines often cannot operate.

In a notice issued by the civic body’s engineering department, MCD has called for Expressions of Interest (EoI) from eligible agencies to conduct a feasibility study on mechanised sweeping of roads that are less than 10 metres wide. These streets form a large portion of Delhi’s internal road network but are typically cleaned manually due to space constraints, officials said.

Officials said the study will examine whether smaller or specially designed sweepers can be adopted for such roads and how they could be integrated into the city’s existing sanitation system.

The detailed EoI document is available on MCD’s website and agencies can submit their proposals until 3 pm on March 25.

To address queries and gather technical suggestions, the civic body will hold a pre-bid meeting on March 19 at 2 pm at the Civic Centre. Prospective participants will be able to present their concepts and technical approaches during the discussion.

If implemented, the initiative could help extend mechanised cleaning to many of Delhi’s narrower residential streets, officials said.
