A landmark dance-theatre production Gīta Govinda – Where There is Rādhā, There is Hari is set to be staged at Kamani Auditorium on April 7 and 8. Reimagining the 12th-century Sanskrit masterpiece by Jayadeva Goswami, the production brings together music, movement and storytelling to explore the eternal love of Radha and Krishna.
Considered a crown jewel of devotional Sanskrit literature, Gīta Govinda delves into themes of love, longing, separation and union. This adaptation unfolds through three central characters—Radha, Krishna and Sakhi—each portrayed by individual performers within a cohesive narrative structure.
The production features music by Shubha Mudgal, whose compositions lend a contemporary resonance to the classical text. Radha will be portrayed by Shimran Zaman, Krishna by Shivam Sahni, and Sakhi by Kenisha Tandwalia, with the performers weaving together a layered interpretation of the timeless narrative.
Blending classical aesthetics with a theatrical approach, the performance aims to present the text in a format that is both accessible and immersive for modern audiences, while retaining its spiritual and poetic depth.
The show will run for 90 minutes, from 7 PM to 8:30 PM on both days. Tickets are priced at Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500, Rs 1,200, Rs 1,000 and Rs 500, and are available on District by Zomato.
