Delhi on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 24.6 degrees Celsius and is likely to witness thunderstorms with rain, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD on Saturday issued a ‘yellow’ alert for the national capital for the next two days, warning of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. The cloudy skies and intermittent rain are expected to persist till May 6.
A yellow alert indicates that residents should stay updated on weather conditions as thunderstorms, lightning and brief spells of rain may affect normal activities.
The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for Delhi, recorded a minimum temperature of 24.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, a notch below normal.
Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 22.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal; Lodhi Road 23.4 degrees Celsius, marginally above normal; the Ridge 23.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal; and Ayanagar 23.4 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, with cloud cover likely to keep daytime heat in check.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 176, in the ‘moderate’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’.
