The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to restore 101 water bodies across the capital by end of August, Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on Saturday.

The L-G launched the restoration drive — part of the DDA’s ‘Jal Sanchay Abhiyaan’ of DDA — from District Park in Paschim Vihar.

“The first phase will prioritise functional ecological restoration through deep desilting and catchment clearance to maximize groundwater recharge during the monsoon season,” Sandhu said in a post on X.

The L-G said the drive is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of long-term water security, and the work will be executed in “mission-mode” to restore water bodies by August 30.

“This Abhiyaan seeks to revive Delhi’s ‘blue lungs’ and strengthen the city’s ecological resilience,” he added.

Sandhu directed officials to ensure strict adherence to timelines and maintain the highest standards of execution across all restoration sites.

“We remain committed to reclaiming Delhi’s aquatic heritage and building a greener, more water-secure and ecologically resilient capital,” the L-G said.

He also urged city residents to participate in this movement and contribute towards a greener, water-secure.
