The month-long house census in Delhi, first of the two phases, began on May 16 and will conclude on June 14

Despite the intense heat, census enumerators have reached out to 95 per cent of the digitally mapped houselisting blocks in MCD areas of the city, officials said on Tuesday.

The month-long houselisting exercise, first of the two phases, began on May 16 and will conclude on June 14.

There are over 45,000 houselisting blocks (HLBs) in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) areas with each comprising 180-200 households.

According to official data, door-to-door visits by thousands of enumerators is currently underway in 44,435 of the 45,791 HLBs in the 12 districts of Delhi.

In the New Delhi district, all 585 HLBs have been fully covered, while significant progress was reported in North-East Delhi, which has the highest number of HLBs in the city at 5,947.

Central North, South West, North West, West, East and Central districts have also achieved satisfactory houselisting enumeration, officials said.

Door-to-door surveys are underway in 4,275 HLBs in North West Delhi, 4,972 in West Delhi, 4,084 in East Delhi, 2,346 in Central district and 4,213 blocks in South West Delhi.

Under the houselisting and housing phase of the Census 2027, people are being asked a set of 33 questions notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The questions pertain to building number, census house number, predominant materials used in the floor, wall and roof of the house, use and condition of the house, total number of persons in the household, and the name of the head of the household.

Details regarding ownership of house, number of dwelling rooms, main source of drinking water and lighting, access to toilet and bathroom, fuel used for cooking, use of radio, television, computer, laptop, bicycle, car, jeep, van, main cereal consumed and the use of mobile phones, are also being collected during houselisting.

The houselisting and housing phase will be followed by population enumeration in February 2027, encompassing the collection of demographic and socio-economic data.
