A 45-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in Mount Kailash area of southeast Delhi on Thursday, with the accused being found at the crime scene and taken into custody, police said.

The victim, identified as Meena, worked as a domestic help and was found lying in a pool of blood on the terrace of a building in Mount Kailash, they said.

Police received a PCR call at around 11.36 AM, reporting that a woman had been murdered on the terrace of a neighbouring building and was lying blood-soaked at the spot.

“A team was immediately rushed to the spot and found the victim dead. A man in his 50s was also present near the body when the police team arrived,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said.

During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to attacking the woman with a bat and subsequently stabbing her with a knife, the officer said.

The accused was immediately apprehended and is being questioned to ascertain the motive behind the killing, police said.

Investigators suspect that the crime may have stemmed from a personal dispute, though all angles are being examined.

Police are also trying to establish the nature of the relationship between the accused and the victim and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the murder.

A crime team was called to inspect the scene and collect forensic evidence. Police further informed that CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being scanned, and locals are being questioned to gather information about the incident.

The body has been sent for postmortem, and a case is being registered, police said, adding that detailed questioning of the accused is in progress.

The officer said that multiple teams are questioning the accused to know the main reason behind the murder. Teams have seized the bat and the knife from the spot.
