No casualties reported as 24 fire tenders douse blaze; incident comes amid a rise in fire-related emergencies across the capital

At least 30 huts were gutted after a fire broke out in the Takia Kale Khan area of central Delhi, a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said on Tuesday.

The DFS received a call about the blaze at 11.22 pm on Monday and rushed firefighting apparatus to the spot.

“As the fire spread, 24 fire units were pressed into service, which doused the blaze by 12.55 am (on Tuesday). A cooling operation is underway,” the official said.

No injury or casualty was reported in the incident.

The fire comes amid a rise in fire-related emergencies in the national capital. According to DFS data, fire-related deaths increased by nearly 63 per cent in the first five months of 2026, with 44 fatalities recorded till May 24 compared to 27 during the corresponding period last year. Officials have linked the increase to soaring temperatures, higher electricity consumption, overloaded electrical infrastructure and a rise in rubbish and dry-waste fires.
