Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected waterlogged areas in East Delhi following heavy rains and directed officials to deploy pumps, clear accumulated water swiftly and strengthen drainage arrangements to prevent further waterlogging

As heavy rains hit the city, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of waterlogged areas near Sadbhavna Park in East Delhi on Saturday.

During the inspection, she assessed areas prone to waterlogging, reviewed the cleanliness of major roads, and received updates on the water drainage system and the challenges posed by the ongoing rains.

“She directed officials to immediately deploy pumps and other necessary resources in waterlogged areas and ensure swift clearance of accumulated water,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement.

Gupta also instructed officials to strengthen the drainage system further during the monsoon season and ensure that no area experiences waterlogging, the statement added.

The chief minister emphasised that all concerned departments must work with complete preparedness, promptness and coordination to ensure that Delhi residents do not face inconvenience due to rainfall.

The inspection comes a day after several parts of the city were waterlogged, particularly areas around Indira Gandhi International Airport.

In light of the upcoming international BRICS summit next week on September 12 and 13, senior officials from the Delhi government also inspected the route from Bharat Mandapam to IGI Airport to identify any potential issues.
