Two people, including a Delhi Police constable, were killed by a DTC bus after its driver lost control due to a technical malfunction near the Monastery Market, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus mounted the pavement, hit a billboard pole, then struck the two men before finally stopping at a road divider on Ring Road on Monday night.
No passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia stated, “The green DTC bus, operating from Sarai Kale Khan to Nand Nagari via ISBT, experienced a technical issue. Around 10:38 pm, the Police Control Room (PCR) received multiple calls indicating that the bus had veered off the road near the Monastery Market, causing significant damage and critically injuring two people.”
The DCP reported that Delhi Police Constable Victor (27), a resident of Nagaland, and another man, still unidentified, were injured in the incident.
“Constable Victor, on night patrol duty, had left the police station at 9:45 pm and was riding the PCR motorcycle when the accident occurred. After being struck by the bus, he was taken to Parmanand Hospital in Civil Lines, where doctors pronounced him dead. He suffered multiple severe injuries to his head, neck, and face,” Banthia said.
Victor had been stationed at the Civil Lines police station since June 2023, he added.

The second victim was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, and efforts are ongoing to determine his identity.
The bus driver, Vinod Kumar (57) of Ghazipur, was taken into custody without any injuries. Employed with the DTC since 2010, he had been driving the bus with only a DTC duty officer on board at the time due to a reported breakdown, police said.
