A 30-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly installing hidden cameras to spy on his father’s tenant in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area.

The victim, a woman living alone while preparing for competitive exams, became suspicious when she noticed her WhatsApp account was linked to an unfamiliar device. After investigating further, she discovered a hidden camera concealed in the bulb holder of her bathroom, according to the police.

Shocked by the discovery, she contacted the police, who later found another hidden camera in the bulb holder of her bedroom. “The woman shared that she often gave her house keys to Karan, the landlord’s son, who resides on a different floor of the same building,” said DCP (East) Apoorva Gupta.

During questioning, Karan admitted to allegedly installing the cameras three months ago. He took advantage of the victim’s absence when she traveled to her hometown in Uttar Pradesh, purchasing three spy cameras from a local electronics store and installing two in her apartment.

As the cameras operated via memory cards rather than online, Karan frequently asked for the woman’s house keys, pretending he needed to fix electrical appliances. This allowed him to access the cameras and transfer the recordings to his laptop, said DCP Gupta.

During the investigation, police recovered one spy camera and two laptops from Karan, which were used to store the footage. Karan has been charged under section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). (With inputs from PTI)
