A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly morphing photographs of women and using them to blackmail victims through social media, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Madhav Singh from Amritsar, allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh from a woman, threatening to circulate the doctored images online if she failed to pay, officials said.
Following his arrest in northwest Delhi, police recovered a mobile phone containing multiple manipulated images.
During interrogation, Singh reportedly confessed, admitting that he engaged in blackmail for “amusement”.

“A woman filed a complaint of extortion and cyberbullying, stating that an individual had contacted her via social media, gained her trust over time, and acquired her photographs,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh.
The accused operated using multiple fake social media accounts to conceal his identity, never sharing personal details such as his phone number or address, which made tracking him difficult, the officer added.
However, through digital forensics, technical surveillance, and manual analysis, police successfully traced Singh’s online activity and identified him.
Following sustained efforts, authorities arrested him and seized the phone used in the crime.
The investigation is ongoing, with police working to identify other potential victims and any accomplices involved in similar offenses, the DCP said.
