A tragic incident unfolded in southwest Delhi’s Kusumpur Pahadi area on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old man whose throat was allegedly slit by his friend over an unpaid debt of Rs 1,500 during a drinking session, as reported by the police.
The accused, identified as Sanjay, has been apprehended in connection with the incident.
According to a senior police official, the Vasant Vihar police station received a distress call at 5:42 am, informing them of the murder. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found the victim’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, with his throat gruesomely slit by a sharp object.
Immediate action followed as the crime and forensic teams were summoned to the location, alongside an examination of CCTV footage from the vicinity. Subsequently, an FIR was filed under Section 302 (murder), initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.
The investigation swiftly led to the identification of a suspect, Sanjay, residing in the same locality. Upon interrogation, Sanjay confessed to the crime, revealing that he and the victim, identified as Ashwani, had been consuming alcohol together in a parking area. Around 1:30 am, Sanjay demanded the overdue Rs 1,500 from Ashwani, triggering a heated argument when the latter refused to comply.
In a fit of rage, Sanjay allegedly resorted to violence, breaking a bottle and fatally injuring Ashwani by slashing his throat. Subsequently, Sanjay discarded the victim’s mobile phone near a dustbin and returned home after concealing his slippers, replacing them with shoes.
Police recovered the blood-stained slippers from Sanjay’s residence, along with the victim’s mobile phone. Further inquiries are underway to ascertain all relevant details surrounding the incident, as authorities continue to pursue justice for the victim and his family.
