The youth's elder brother and a friend were injured in the incident, and three people have been arrested, police said

A young man was fatally stabbed in the Pul Prahladpur area of southeast Delhi after reportedly refusing to give a beedi (hand-rolled cigarette) to two individuals, police said on Tuesday.

The incident, which occurred on Monday night, also left the victim’s elder brother and a friend injured. Three suspects have since been arrested in connection with the attack, according to police.

Authorities stated that the victim, identified as Sohaib, was slapped by two local men — Munna and Sunny — in a park after declining their request for a beedi. Following the altercation, Sohaib returned home and informed his mother, Sabukta.

Accompanied by his mother and elder brother Mohsin, Sohaib returned to confront the men. He also called a friend, Akram, to join them, officials said.

The confrontation escalated into violence when Munna (26), his brother Imtiyaz (30), and nephew Sunny (20) allegedly attacked Sohaib and his companions with knives.

All three victims were rushed to ESI Hospital, where doctors declared Sohaib dead on arrival. He had sustained multiple stab wounds and collapsed on the road. Mohsin, critically injured, was later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital, while Akram received minor injuries.

“A First Information Report (FIR) was filed, and multiple teams were deployed to apprehend the accused. All three — Firoz alias Munna, Imtiyaz, and Saudagar alias Sunny — have been arrested,” a senior police officer confirmed.

Two blood-stained knives were recovered from their possession, police added.
