A 38-year-old man was fatally stabbed while attempting to prevent a mobile snatching in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, police said . The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday as Mukesh Jha and a female friend were returning home after dining at a restaurant.
Police received a call early Thursday morning about a stabbing and phone snatching near Naiwala Chowk, a senior officer said. Upon arrival, it was found that Jha and his friend had just left a restaurant in Beadon Pura. As they passed Sat Brahwa School, three individuals tried to snatch the phone from Jha’s female friend. When Jha resisted, a scuffle ensued, during which one of the attackers stabbed him, took the phone, and fled with his accomplices.
Jha was rushed to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Originally from Nepal, he lived in West Delhi’s Mohan Garden and ran a roadside jeans stall on Tank Road in Karol Bagh. His family remains in Nepal.

The incident, captured by nearby CCTV cameras, showed some bystanders witnessing the crime but not intervening. Based on his friend’s statement, an FIR was filed under sections 103(1) (murder), 309(6) (causing hurt during a robbery), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Karol Bagh Police Station.
The police have mobilised multiple teams, scrutinising CCTV footage from the restaurant to the crime scene. Forensic experts also examined the site as the investigation progresses.
