Delhi Police on Thursday arrested six persons for committing Rs 3.5-crore dacoity at a transport company based in North Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh.
The accused have been identified as Pramod Tomar (33), Shanu Ali (43), and Faizal (18), who are residents of Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi, and Ankush Tomar (30), Kailash Chauhan (48), and Upender Kumar (36), who are from Madhya Pradesh. Kailash and Upender were employees of the transport company.
According to police, Pramod and Ankush have revealed that they were given the information regarding the money inside the safe by Upender and Kailash.
While six persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the crime, six were nabbed earlier, the police said. Officials added that the police also recovered Rs 1.15 crore, along with two cars, from the possession of accused persons.
The incident took place around 10:45 PM on July 11 when around eight masked men forced their way into the office of Bikaner Assam Roadlines India Ltd’s office in the Kishanganj area.
Police swung into action after a PCR call was made to the Gulabi Bagh police station on the intervening night of July 11-12.
The men were armed with country-made guns and knives, according to witnesses, when they forced their way into the office at 10:45 PM. While committing dacoity, one of them snatched the key to the safe and the group proceeded to steal the huge amount, according to a senior police official.
He added that over 200 CCTVs were scanned along the entry and exit points surrounding the area to identify the culprits. Police found that a Hyundai i10 and a Honda Civic would keep loitering about in the area. It was found that both these cars were owned by Pramod.
During interrogation, Pramod revealed that he was originally from Madhya Pradesh and his other accomplices had fled to nearby states of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand after committing the crime. “Following the dacoity, they fled to a hotel near the Ghaziabad-Delhi border waiting for the matter to die down, after which they left for a flat at Nand Nagri in North East district, where they divided the money among themselves,” the officer stated.
Police suspect the involvement of more people in the crime. Efforts are underway to seize the remaining looted amount and a search is on to nab more accused persons, police said.
