Delhi Police has rescued a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man in northeast Delhi, officials said on Sunday.
The 22-year-old accused, a resident of Uttam Nagar, was arrested early on Sunday, police said.
The case came to light after the girl’s mother approached the police on June 23, alleging that her daughter had been missing since June 20. Despite extensive efforts by the family to trace her, her whereabouts remained unknown, prompting suspicion of kidnapping, they said.
“Based on the complaint, the team registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, a police team analysed electronic evidence, tracked technical leads and gathered local intelligence to trace the victim’s location. The minor was rescued subsequently and the accused was apprehended,” police said.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to his involvement in the offence.
Following the recovery of the victim and recording of her statement, police invoked additional sections 64(1) (Rape) and 87 (Kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The police said the accused has no previous criminal record. The victim has been provided with the necessary assistance in accordance with legal procedures, while the accused is in custody. Further investigation is underway.
