Delhi: A 30-year-old female graphic designer and a hired henchman have been arrested in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area for attempting to harm her ex-boyfriend, an officer reported on Monday.
The woman sought revenge on her ex-boyfriend and colleague after he jilted her and became engaged to someone else, according to the officer.
Jimmy Chiram, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer District, told Patriot that the woman had hired three men to carry out an acid attack on the victim identified as Omkar, 24, a graphic designer. “She paid the men Rs 30,000 to execute the attack and provided the acid herself. We have arrested one of the accused, but two others are still at large,” he said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
“There have not been any recent acid attacks in the district, and this case is particularly unusual because it involves a woman orchestrating an attack on a man. It’s one of the most unique cases we’ve encountered,” he said.
The attackers arrived on a motorcycle and assaulted him with a knife, inflicting multiple cuts, he said.
Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and analysed Omkar’s call records, which led them to identify the woman and the three attackers.
On June 23, acting on a tip-off, police set a trap near Dwarka Mor and apprehended one of the suspects, Vikash, Chiram said.
During interrogation, Vikash revealed that he, along with Harsh alias Bali and Rohan, had attacked Omkar with a knife. He also disclosed the woman’s hideout.
The woman, whose name was withheld by police and who resides near Tilak Nagar Metro Station, was arrested in Nihal Vihar, he said.

She admitted that she and Omkar had been having an affair for the past three years. Angered by his engagement to another woman, she hired the three men for Rs 30,000 to carry out an acid attack and provided them with a bottle of acid, police said.
The woman also alleged that Omkar had threatened to upload her private pictures online when she objected to his engagement, the DCP said.
According to the plan, the men were supposed to throw acid at Omkar’s face but failed and resorted to knifing him instead, he said.
A hunt is ongoing for the two other suspects, he added. (With inputs from PTI)
