A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a senior student of a private school in Delhi, DCW said.

In a statement, the Delhi Commission (DCW) for women said that it was about a six-year-old child of a private school in Begumpur area being assaulted. The victim’s mother stated that on August 23, when her daughter’s school bus dropped her at the society’s gate, she found that her daughter’s bag was wet due to urine.

“She has alleged that on inquiry, the girl informed that a student studying in a senior class has been molesting the girl in the school bus. She has stated that she along with her husband went to the school on August 24 and informed regarding the incident to the principal and vice principal of the school,” it stated.

“Victim’s mother further alleged that on August 25, the chairman called them to the school and asked them to withdraw the complaint. She has also alleged that the chairman of the school revealed the identity of the child among their society people,” the statement read.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the Rohini deputy commissioner of police (DCP) regarding the alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old girl on a private school bus. The notice, dated September 1, requests information on the actions taken in response to the incident.

Specifically, the DCW has asked for a copy of the FIR (First Information Report) filed in the case, as well as an explanation for any delays in registering the FIR, if applicable. Additionally, they are inquiring whether the accused has been apprehended or arrested.

The commission is also seeking information about any FIRs filed against the school’s chairman, school manager, principal, vice principal, and other school authorities under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. This inquiry is related to allegations that the school authorities failed to report the incident and exposed the child’s identity.

According to the DCW’s letter to the DCP of Rohini district, the incident involves a student who attends a private school in the Begumpur area of Delhi. The child’s mother reported that on August 23, when her daughter was dropped off at their society’s gate by the school bus, she discovered that her daughter’s bag was wet due to urine. Upon questioning her daughter, the mother learned that a senior student on the school bus had been sexually assaulting her.

In a Hindi post on ‘X,’ Swati Maliwal, the chief of the commission, highlighted the incident and expressed concern. She mentioned that the school was allegedly pressuring the girl’s mother to withdraw the complaint and emphasized the need for strict action against the school. (With inputs from PTI)
