A man was arrested in a smuggling case after Customs officials seized precious stones worth Rs 2.02 crore from him following his interception at the airport here and during a subsequent search at premises associated with him, officials said on Monday.
The passenger, who arrived from Bangkok, was intercepted at Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport on October 3 based on spot profiling, the Customs department said in a statement.
A detailed examination of his baggage and a personal search led to the recovery of 3,200 pieces of precious stones and jewellery items valued at Rs 1.01 crore. The passenger admitted to having brought the goods from Bangkok to Delhi, it said.

As part of the follow-up investigation, Customs officials conducted a search at premises associated with the passenger.
The search resulted in the recovery of 196.67 kg of rough emeralds, 221 carats of cut and polished rubies, and 45 carats of cut and polished emeralds, besides relevant documents and other items, the statement said.
It said the total value of the seized goods was estimated to be Rs 2.02 crore.
According to the statement, the goods were seized and the passenger arrested under the Customs Act, 1962.
