A man has been arrested in connection with the killing of a Swiss woman, whose body was found in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area on Friday, the police said.
The body of the woman, identified as Nina Berger, was found near a government school on Friday morning – half covered with a black garbage disposal plastic bag. The police have arrested a person named Gurpreet Singh in the case.
An official said that Singh claimed that the victim, whom he had met on a dating app and who had come from Switzerland to meet him, was killed by him after a quarrel.
The police, however, are still in the process of verifying the sequence of events and other details as no identification proof of the woman has been found yet, said the official.
According to the police, Gurpreet was arrested based on CCTV footage showing him in a white Hyundai Santro car, which was used to dump the victim’s body.
They said that the victim, believed to be in her early 30s, was found near the Municipal Corporation of Delhi school on Friday morning, her upper part covered with a black garbage disposal plastic bag, and her limbs tied with metal chains.
Gurpreet, residing in Janakpuri with his family, had purchased the car in another woman’s name to mislead the authorities. He confessed to the police that he had strangled the victim after their argument, tied her hands and legs with chains, and kept the body in the car. When the smell became unbearable, he dumped the body in Tilak Nagar near the MCD school, they added.
The police also discovered Rs 2.10 crore in cash at Gurpreet’s residence, prompting an investigation by the Income Tax department. Gurpreet’s family members have also been questioned by the police, who continue their investigation into the case, said the police. (With inputs from PTI)
