A 20-year-old man was allegedly killed by another man after requesting a ‘beedi’ in Shahdara’s Jwala Nagar area, Delhi police said on Friday.

The victim, identified as Sunny from Kasturba Nagar, had a prior history, having been involved in a murder case as a juvenile and also booked under the Arms Act.

Police have arrested Rajesh, a resident of Jwala Nagar, as the main suspect, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.

According to DCP Gautam, a call reached Vivek Vihar police station on Thursday from an ambulance service, notifying them about a deceased youth found near the Jwala Nagar crematorium.

Police rushed to the location, where they discovered the young man lying dead, with blood seeping from his nose.

“The body was moved to the Subzi Mandi mortuary and later handed over to the family after an autopsy,” said Gautam.

Following a preliminary investigation, Rajesh was arrested as the primary suspect in the case.

Rajesh informed police that Sunny had approached him for a ‘beedi,’ which sparked an argument that escalated into a physical fight.

In a burst of anger, Rajesh reportedly picked up a large stone and delivered a fatal blow to Sunny, who died instantly due to blunt force trauma, according to the DCP.

An FIR has been registered against Rajesh under Section 103(1) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at Vivek Vihar police station in Delhi, and further investigation is ongoing, Gautam added.
