A 21-year-old woman suffered severe injuries after reportedly being struck and dragged by a car in the Nand Nagri area of northeast Delhi, according to police reports on Thursday.
Footage from a purported CCTV recording depicts the woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle. Following a collision with a car from behind, she falls off the bike, and the vehicle proceeds to drag her for a short distance before speeding away.
Authorities have apprehended the suspect, identified as Sunny Rawal (21), in connection with the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey stated that a case has been registered under sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code at the Nand Nagri police station.
The victim, employed at a private company, was riding as a passenger with her colleague at the time of the accident, as confirmed by the DCP.
Upon the occurrence, bystanders promptly rushed the injured woman to GTB Hospital, where she remains in critical condition, according to an officer.
The accused, a resident of Ghaziabad, operates a general store with his father near their residence, as per police statements.
Law enforcement has confiscated the car involved in the incident, with ongoing investigations underway, Tirkey affirmed.
