A four-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area on Saturday morning, leaving several feared trapped under the debris, according to police. Rescue teams managed to pull three people alive from the rubble, who were then rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said more people may still be trapped, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
The incident occurred around 7 AM in Janta Colony, near Idgah Road in Seelampur. Seven fire tenders and multiple rescue teams were deployed to the site. Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg confirmed the details, saying, “Three people were rescued. Search operations are continuing.”
Locals were among the first to respond, having been out for their morning walks when the structure gave way. They began rescue efforts before the fire department arrived.

This collapse comes just a day after a similar tragedy struck the Bara Hindu Rao area, where a three-storey commercial building collapsed early Friday morning. A 46-year-old man, identified as Manoj Sharma, was trapped under the debris and later declared dead at Hindu Rao Hospital. Sharma was an employee at one of the shops in the building.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) acknowledged that the collapsed commercial structure was located within the influence zone of tunnelling works for the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg Metro corridor. In a statement, the DMRC said the building had been identified as unsafe and was evacuated prior to the start of construction. They announced an ex gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to Sharma’s family.
Authorities are continuing to assess structural safety in nearby areas, raising broader concerns about aging infrastructure and construction-related risks across the city.
On a quiet Saturday morning in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area, tragedy struck as a four-storey residential building crumbled into rubble. The collapse occurred around 7 AM, jolting the neighborhood just as residents were out on their morning walks. Alerted by panicked calls, emergency services rushed to the scene. Locals were the first to act, pulling at debris with bare hands in a desperate effort to save anyone trapped underneath.
Soon, seven fire tenders and teams from various agencies arrived to support the rescue efforts. With their help, three individuals were successfully pulled from the wreckage and taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities believe more people may still be trapped under the rubble, and search operations are ongoing.
Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg confirmed the incident took place in Gali No. 5 of Janta Colony near Idgah Road in Seelampur. “The operation is still underway,” he stated.
Just a day earlier, a separate collapse occurred in the Bara Hindu Rao area of Delhi. A three-storey commercial building gave way in the early hours of Friday, claiming the life of 46-year-old Manoj Sharma, a shop employee. He was pulled from the debris and rushed to Hindu Rao Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced an ex gratia payment of ₹5 lakh to Sharma’s family. The site of the incident falls within the area affected by tunnelling works for the Janakpuri West–RK Ashram Marg metro corridor. In a statement, DMRC clarified that the building had been previously declared unsafe and was evacuated before the tunnelling began.
As rescue operations continue, the city remains on edge, with concerns growing over infrastructure safety in densely populated areas.
