According to a study conducted by LocalCircles, one or more individuals showed symptoms of viral fever in eight out of every 10 households surveyed in Delhi-NCR in the last 30 days.
More than 11,000 responses from residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad were assessed for the study. While 63% of the respondents were men, 37% were women.
54% of the respondents stated that they had at least two members in their family who had one or more symptoms of viral fever. The symptoms enlisted were cough, headache, fever, runny nose, and bodyache, among others. Additionally, 23% respondents stated that more than four members of their family had reported similar symptoms. The study also stated that most respondents had opted for home kits to test if they have Covid or just viral fever.

The alarming figures from the conclusion of the study can be attributed to Coronavirus which has been on a rise in the national capital since the last few weeks. With 1836 cases accounting for a 7-day average and 51 deaths reported in the last week, the COVID-19 situation in Delhi is alarming. Last Thursday saw 2726 new cases of the deadly disease – the highest spike in nearly seven months. On Friday last week, it saw 10 deaths, the highest in six months.
The Centre’s COVID-19 Task Force also stated that the new Omicron sub-variant (BA 2.75) in Delhi is 20-30% more infectious. The government has made the use of masks mandatory, and offenders will be fined Rs 500. While several Delhiites are wondering if masks are really effective, the administration is discussing closing schools and implementing the ‘50% attendance at workplace’ rule.
