Two young siblings, Anand and Aditya, were attacked and killed by dogs on consecutive days in Sindhi Basti, Vasant Kunj in New Delhi.
Their mother, Sushma, who worked at a beauty parlour would leave her children at home while she went about her daily routine.
Sushma said that Anand went missing on March 10 after he had gone to visit his aunt’s home.
According to the mother, he had bruises and dog bites on his body when they found him.
The mother recounted, “I went to work. I told Anand not to go outside. When I returned home and asked my neighbour Sanju to send Anand since the NGO people had come to provide mid-day meal, I realised that Anand wasn’t at home. I thought he might have gone out to play, but by 3 pm, he still hadn’t returned. People became concerned, and we filed a complaint with the nearest police station, but they were unable to locate Anand. His body was discovered near a wall inside a plot, and he had multiple bruises on his stomach. I also observed that the body had turned black.”
Aditya, the younger sibling, went missing on March 12.
According to Sanju, who was an eyewitness to the incident, Aditya had gone to fill water from the well and was expected to return home soon. However, when he did not return, a search was conducted and his body was discovered near a wall with injuries similar to those found on his elder brother Anand’s body.
“Both of my children’s bodies had the same injury marks,” said Sushma.
Witnesses said that 7-8 dogs were around Aditya’s body at the time of discovery.
The incident was the first of its kind in the area, where the family had lived only for six months, he added.
After the attacks, officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi captured and removed 54 dogs over two days.
The police are investigating the incident, and Sushma is awaiting the results of the post-mortem examinations of her children’s bodies.
