Car crashes into tree in south Delhi; 6 injured

Six people were injured after a car crashed into a tree near Malviya Nagar Metro Station in Saket, with police probing suspected alcohol consumption

Six people, including a woman, were injured after a speeding car crashed into a tree near Malviya Nagar Metro Station in Saket area of south Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

The accident took place around 11:40 pm on Tuesday on Press Enclave Road, when the driver of a car allegedly lost control, and the vehicle rammed into a roadside tree, they said.

Police said after receiving information in the early hours of Wednesday, they rushed to the spot and found the damaged vehicle.

Police said several beer bottles were recovered from the vehicle, raising suspicion that the occupants may have consumed alcohol before the accident.

Three injured — Sonu Kanojiya (21), Anish Kanojiya (26) and Prince Kumar (19), all residents of Sangam Vihar — were admitted to Max Hospital.

Later, police received information from Max Smart Hospital about three more injured persons — Chhavi Chopra (20), a Neb Sarai resident, Vicky Gupta (35), a Devli resident, and Sonu (26), a Begumpur resident in Malviya Nagar — linked to the same accident.

Police said Chhavi and Vicky sustained serious injuries, while Sonu’s medical opinion is still awaited.

According to preliminary medical records, all six were travelling in the car when it crashed.

Police said owing to their medical condition, none of the injured persons is in a position to record statements.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
