The Chirag Delhi flyover was fully opened for traffic on Wednesday in much relief for commuters as the closure of its carriageways in two 25-day windows for repairs triggered snarls on the Outer Ring Road, which is key to the overall mobility in South Delhi.

The Public Works department (PWD) has completed the maintenance work and the traffic movement was smooth on the first day. The reopening of the flyover is a relief for lakhs of commuters who travel between these two destinations every day, said officails.

The PWD minister Atishi praised Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for closely monitoring the maintenance work of the flyover. Despite several halts due to frequent rain, the PWD worked round-the-clock to complete the project ahead of schedule. This is another step forward in making Delhi traffic jam-free.

Earlier, the closure of the flyover had caused heavy traffic jams for commuters. With the flyover now fully open, commuters can travel smoothly without facing any traffic issues. “The opening of the Chirag Delhi flyover is a breather from traffic situations. I hope it stays the same,” said Niranjan Sinha, a resident of South Delhi. Another commuter expressed relief and said that the reopening of the flyover will benefit all those who travel between these two destinations.

Overall, the reopening of the Chirag Delhi flyover is a major relief for commuters and a positive step towards easing traffic congestion in Delhi. (With inputs from PTI)
