A court in Delhi late on Saturday requested an action taken report from the Delhi Police regarding a petition filed to summon and prosecute a sub-inspector who physically assaulted individuals praying on a street in north Delhi.

The incident occurred during Friday prayers around 2 pm on March 8 near the Inderlok Metro Station and was captured on video, subsequently spreading widely across social media platforms.

Metropolitan Magistrate Manoj Kaushal stated, “Arguments have been heard. An action taken report is to be obtained from the concerned deputy commissioner of police (DCP) by May 1.”

In his complaint, Advocate Faraz Khan highlighted that the sub-inspector’s actions disrupted societal harmony and peace, besides violating the fundamental rights of the individuals involved.

The petition requested the court to summon and prosecute the accused, as well as initiate a case against him.

According to the police, the sub-inspector was promptly suspended following the incident.

Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Tomar faced backlash after forcefully interrupting individuals during their Friday prayers on a road in north Delhi. His actions prompted protests by hundreds of locals and led to his immediate suspension.

Various segments of society, including political figures, denounced Tomar’s actions after a video capturing the incident went viral on social media.

Tomar was serving as the in-charge of the Inderlok Police Post under Sarai Rohilla Police Station and had been deployed there for the past two months.

The incident occurred during Friday prayers around 2 pm near the Inderlok Metro Station. In the footage, Tomar is seen attempting to disperse a group of men praying on the road near a mosque, after which he forcefully shoves and kicks some of them.

Residents, angered by the incident, gathered in large numbers and blocked the road in protest.
