Delhi: Drug addict kills 65-year-old mother over monetary dispute, held

Delhi: A 40-year-old drug addict murdered his mother following a heated argument over money in northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur area, police said on Saturday.

Sonu has been arrested for killing his 65-year-old mother, they said.

At around 9 pm on Friday, Dayalpur Police Station got a call regarding the incident. A team rushed to the spot and found the elderly woman dead.

During an investigation, it was revealed that Sonu, a driver by profession, was currently unemployed and a drug addict. He frequently fought with his mother over money.

On Friday night, a similar argument broke out between them and Sonu murdered his mother, the police said, adding that the accused has been arrested and further probe is underway.

The body has been sent to GTB Hospital for post-mortem, they said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police in city have seized cocaine worth Rs 1.5 crore and arrested two drug peddlers, including an African national, officials said on Friday.

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Yao, an African national, and 23-year-old Bikas from Bihar, were found in possession of 141.9 grams of cocaine.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Akanksha Yadav, the duo was actively supplying cocaine across Delhi and the NCR. They were arrested near Bhikaji Cama Place after police received a tip-off. A trap was set, leading to their apprehension near a bus stop on Ring Road. A search of their belongings resulted in the recovery of the narcotics. Following this, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was initiated.

Police revealed that Yao came to India in 2018 on a tourist visa but remained in the country illegally after it expired. Initially, he sold small amounts of cocaine to sustain himself but later became involved in large-scale drug distribution.
