Delhi election results: BJP secures 11 seats, leads in 37; AAP wins 10

Delhi election results: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured 11 seats and is leading in 37 more, taking its total tally to 48 in the Delhi Assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has governed the national capital for a decade, has won 10 seats and is ahead in 12 others, bringing its projected total to 22.

This marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, with the BJP poised to return to power after 26 years.

Results

BJP’s Rekha Gupta clinched the Shalimar Bagh seat with a commanding margin of 29,595 votes. In Tri Nagar, Tilak Ram Gupta emerged victorious with a 15,896-vote lead. Harish Khurana secured Moti Nagar, winning by 11,657 votes, while Manjinder Singh Sirsa triumphed in Rajouri Garden by 18,190 votes.

Other key BJP victories include Umang Bajaj in Rajinder Nagar (margin: 1,231 votes), Kartar Singh Tanwar in Chhatarpur (6,239 votes), and Chandan Kumar Choudhary in Sangam Vihar, who won by a slim 344 votes.

Shikha Roy bagged the Greater Kailash seat with a 3,188-vote lead, while Ravinder Singh Negi (Ravi Negi) won Patparganj by a comfortable 28,072 votes. In Laxmi Nagar, Abhay Verma defeated his closest rival by 11,542 votes, while Arvinder Singh Lovely secured Gandhi Nagar with a 12,748-vote victory.

AAP’s Performance

AAP’s Anil Jha registered a landslide win in Kirari, securing 1,05,780 votes and defeating his opponent by 21,871 votes. In Sultanpur Majra, Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat won by 17,126 votes, while Som Dutt retained Sadar Bazar with a margin of 6,307 votes.

In Chandni Chowk, Punardeep Singh Sawhney (Sabby) secured victory with 16,572 votes, and Imran Hussain won Ballimaran by a decisive 29,823 votes. Jarnail Singh emerged victorious in Tilak Nagar, defeating his rival by 11,656 votes.

Virender Singh Kadian won the Delhi Cantt seat by a narrow 2,029-vote margin. Sahi Ram secured Tughlakabad with a lead of 14,711 votes, while Kuldeep Kumar (Monu) emerged victorious in Kondli with 6,293 votes. Gopal Rai, one of AAP’s senior leaders, won from Babarpur by 18,994 votes.

BJP set for a comeback

With a total of 11 seats already in BJP’s bag and leads in 37 more, the party is inching closer to forming a government in Delhi after more than two decades. The final results will determine whether the saffron party secures a clear majority to govern the national capital.
