A fire broke out in a building housing a paying guest (PG) accommodation and a shoe manufacturing unit in Karol Bagh area of Delhi on Wednesday, an official said.
Two students staying at the PG were safely rescued from the building, police said, adding that no casualty had been reported so far.
The incident happened around 10.50 am.
Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and were engaged in efforts to bring the blaze under control, police said.
“The upper floor of the building was being used as a PG accommodation, while a small leather shoe manufacturing unit was operating on the ground floor,” a senior police officer said.
Police personnel, including senior officers, reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and coordinated with the Delhi Fire Services during the operation.
Necessary safety measures were put in place and traffic was regulated in the area to facilitate firefighting and rescue operations, police said.
The authorities were closely monitoring the situation, and efforts were underway to completely douse the fire. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
