A major fire destroyed goods worth crores at a Vijay Sales showroom in Delhi's Janakpuri, with no casualties reported

Delhi: Electronic goods and other materials worth crores of rupees were destroyed in a fire at a multi-storey electronics showroom in Janakpuri around 4:15 am on Wednesday, officials said, reporting no casualties.

A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officer said the blaze at the Vijay Sales showroom on the Uttam Nagar-Najafgarh Road prompted the deployment of 15 fire tenders.

Eyewitnesses said visuals from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing as flames rapidly engulfed the building, which was visible from a considerable distance.

The fire also spread to an adjoining Bata showroom, following which authorities cordoned off the area while firefighters worked to prevent the blaze from spreading further, police said.

The DFS officer said firefighters initially rushed three water tenders to the spot. However, as the fire’s intensity increased, more fire engines were pressed into service.

The DFS officer said the blaze was brought under control around 6:30 am, but cooling operations continued till evening to ensure it did not reignite. According to fire officials, the blaze engulfed electronic goods, furniture and other materials stored in the basement, ground floor and three upper floors of the building, spread over around 350 square yards.

“While the exact extent of the damage is being assessed, the blaze is believed to have gutted electronic goods and other material worth crores of rupees,” the DFS officer said.

He said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation is underway.

As news of the fire spread, several worried customers rushed to the showroom carrying purchase bills and invoices, seeking information about products they had recently bought or were expecting to receive.

“It was shocking to hear, as I am a regular customer. All the branches are good,” a customer who visited the spot said.

Another customer, Dinesh Joshi, said he had booked two air conditioners for Rs 71,700 at the showroom on Tuesday night and was expecting their delivery on Wednesday. Joshi expressed hope that the delivery would not be affected by the fire.

Police and fire officials remained at the scene while cooling operations continued, and they inspected the premises for structural damage.
