The Delhi government has instructed all government schools to submit details of students eligible for financial assistance under a welfare scheme for children of registered construction workers by 30 May.
According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on April 25, the scheme allows up to two children per registered construction worker—enrolled with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board—to apply for aid. All relevant information must be uploaded to an online module within the given timeframe.
The DoE clarified that no additional documents from students or parents will be accepted, as the application process will rely on the unique registration IDs issued by the Labour Department.
Under the scheme, students in Classes 1 to 8 will receive Rs 500 per month, those in Classes 9 and 10 Rs 700 per month, and students in Classes 11 and 12 Rs 1,000 per month. This equates to an annual benefit ranging from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 per student.
School heads have been directed to ensure thorough verification of student data, particularly Aadhaar and bank account details, to prevent errors and eliminate ineligible entries—especially among students with similar names. The circular also emphasised avoiding duplicate entries caused by the same family being issued multiple registration IDs.

Responsibility for any lapses—whether the omission of eligible students or inclusion of ineligible ones—will rest with school authorities, the circular noted.
The financial aid initiative is a collaborative effort between the DoE and the Labour Department’s Welfare Board for construction workers.
